About me

I'm currently at Dalhousie Legal Aid Service in Halifax, coordinating research about access to justice for tenants in Nova Scotia.

I recently finished a PhD at Dalhousie University. My passion is getting deep understanding of the issues facing rural Atlantic Canadians through community-engaged, qualitative research.

My dissertation project is on rural school closures in Nova Scotia: you can read it here. As part of my work in the Rural Futures Research Centre, I also collaborated on a project about occupational succession in rural areas, and in the past I have worked on projects about rural tourism and agriculture.

I teach courses on rural sociology, tourism, economic development, and community engagement.

Let me keep my distance, always, from those

who think they have the answers.

Let me keep company always with those who say

“Look!” and laugh in astonishment,

and bow their heads.
